Blog 6: Half Term Fun
With half term approaching, here are some fun and exciting ways you can use phonics with your children in the holidays!
Hide and Seek:
Why not play hide and seek, but use phonics? Hide as many sounds or words as you like and see who can find the most. Maybe even add a time limit to make things interesting.
Treasure Hunt:
Why not create a treasure map to help you find the sounds? You can make a treasure map of anywhere you like; your house, the park or the beach. What sounds or words will find along the way?
Magnets:
Try getting some magnetic letters on your fridge or radiator. This activity can last for ages! Especially if you are busy in the kitchen and the kids need something to keep them occupied.
Messy Fun!:
Sand, shaving foam, glitter, rice, flour……all of these fun and messy things can be used to write! Pour some of your favourite messy substance into a tray or small box. Your children can use their fingers, paint brushes, pencils, sticks or whatever utensil they like the write words and sounds. They can even draw pictures if they like! The photos below have some great examples of how you can use this activity.
Apps:
Do your children love apps on the tablet or phone? Here are some free apps you can download that are great for phonics!
